Excelent comment. A rarity on youtube. And you're right, the Porsche and the Subaru are extremely nice cars. Yes, it was a Mustang you saw. A 427 Roush, as I recall. (video was shot about a year ago) Mustangs are a very popular car to track here in the US despite their reputation. Few are very fast, but they cheap, fun to drive, and upgrade parts are cheap and very plentiful. I enjoyed the ones I owned very much, but they are a far cry from the Z06. :)

I'd expect a stock C5 Z06 to beat both the cars as you proved on the track catching both up in the corners. Nice job. All extremely nice cars though. The C5 Z06 has been round the nurburgring in under 8 mins - says it all really - outstanding car. Was that a Mustang on the track too earlier in the vid? Fdd3s, it is track "etiquette" to wave or let a faster car go by when it is safe to do so as in a straight.

I'm going to be honest with you. I think that was a total lie. Why? Becuase if you had any driving knowledge at all, you would be able to tell that my lines are tighter than those driven by the 911 or STi with the exception of the first half of the tower U-turn, which I do to get a better run onto the straightaway. If in fact you race, you probably suck balls and drive in the same fassion as the 911 driver, but don't know you suck balls because you falsely think you can correct my driving.

I just wanna say that the corvet zo6, agree with me or not, built as more of a competition car than the sti and carrera. Its more aerodynamic, lighter, has more stability and handling. An sti is a an awd, as the carrera is. So, basically, you're gonna gain more handling from a rwd then an awd on corners. 2nd, the subaru is beefier in recent models. It had gained more than 500 lbs.

The corvette is handing Europe its ass. I've riden shot gun in a C5 Z06 with new cams, headers, clutch, etc and it was amazing. from what i know it the intake the euro version used an intake similar to what is on mine now with 6 seperate thottle bodies were the usa version uses one. someone told me there was a difference in the head also but not sure yeah 32p is good it an intake larger mass air sensor and chip, the funny part is headers and full exhaust only add like 10-15 depending on the setup and cost a fortune a good cat back is only good for 3-5hp and honestly dont sound that good noisey as hell

I think my brother's biggest worry about the M3 is that after driving it on the track, he might lose all interest in his MR2 race car. yea to me it seemed to ride even bet than stock as i said im almost 6'5" 270 i fit great in the e36 better than the e46 mine was silver no spoiler, black interior with the vader seats only thing i noticed on that car was when pushed you had to check the front subframe connector once in awhile loosens up alittle i replaced it with the x-brace didnt seem to have problems after that go to turner motorsports id use the conforti euro intake chip package if i did it again its good for 32hp

I was amazed at how roomy and comfortable the back seat of that little car is and I was very suprised how nice it rode after the HRs and Bilstiens.

thank you that was very informative, my bmw also has problems with gounding out in the driveway have to hit it at an angle didnt have that problem with the 95 m3 but the 03 does have a tighter turning radius everything has its pros and cons, dont they im just nervous about modifing this car its almost too low stock, the motor is too high revving, no low end as a stock vehicle its better than average but i usually look for alittle more as i said they all have their pros and cons

As for the track, I have had problems boiling brake fluid. I've installed spindle ducts and titanium shims but haven't had them on the track to see if they work yet. I also was killing the outside edge of my front tires. But that was solved with a more aggresive than stock alignment. Now I'm very happy with tire wear and the car turns in better. Also, if you add power, you need to upgrade the clutch. But the car is fast. It goes, corners, and stops very well.

It's not a bad daily driver. The down sides are it's really long and low. You have to be very careful not to scrape on driveways and other inclines. It also has a wide turning circle so parking in tight areas is a tad tougher. The stock headlights are terrible. But an upgrade to true HIDs works great and is not expensive. Otherwise, it's fine. It's reliable, gets okay gas mileage, and is suprisingly comfortable. Cargo space is quite good.

This video was shot probably around 2000 or 2001 on my old Hi-8 camcorder. This was my first car and I still own it but it has been reworked since then. Engine is a built 302, trans is a 3500 stall/kitted AOD, axel is a 4.11 posi 8" Ford, and the exhaust is long tube headers through glass packs.

I looked it up and it seems the engine weighs 430 lbs (195kg) fully trimed. It is torquey. In town, I shift 1-3-5-6 at ~2000rpm. There is just no point using all the gears. This is how it gets respectable economy. In 6th gear, 80mph (129kl/h) is only 1950 rpm and 6th gear is usable down to 40mph @ 1000rpms.

The engine in the C5Z06 like mine is called an LS6. It is a pushrod, 2 valve, all aluminum, 5700cc, V8, with a 6500rpm redline.

Yes, the video is in 2x speed. I did it that way because it's the only way to fit it uncut into youtube's 10 minute/ 100MB limit. Car is a 2001 Z06 with CAI, LT headers, HAWK HP+ pads, and a 4 wheel alignment. No changes were made from the way I drive it to work everyday. The car sounds a lot like an F1 car in double speed, doesn't it? And I sound a lot like a chipmunk, don't I?

The crown vic is an old Bondurant driving school car I think. Wether you use a set of tires and brakes at a track day depends on a lot of things. My current tires have been through probably 5 track days plus street driving too. Pads last probably about the same for me, but cost a couple hundred bucks just for front pads. Entry fee is $140/day and I burn about $50 in gas/day. But that's for around 80 minutes of racing. Not cheap, but not too bad. Definitely very fun. It's worth it to me.

I shoot for about 40lbs hot. I've seen in excess of that after coming into the pits. usually I run about 33psi cool in front and 35 psi in the rear with adjustments as necessary to get around 40psi (mostly in the fronts). Last time I ran about 25 psi cool because I assume the tire would get hot fast given the weather conditions. I do recall seeing 150F on the tires according to my pyromenter.

Thank you. I clearly need more seat time as I shouldn't be getting so sideways in the first place, but yeah, the tires are great. Much more progressive and controlable than previous tires I've run. Plus, they give you lots of audible info about how they're doing. LOL I don't know how much of that has to do with the fact that I'm running more pressure with these, though. I'm running 30psi cold instead of 25psi cold.

Thanks. Working there was one of the more fun times in my life even though I made a lot les than I do now. It never felt like work. I'm still too cheap to buy seperate rims tires for the track, so I'm going to buy a set of Falken Azenis RT-615's. They are still street tires but will give me much more grip than I've ever had before. I'm confident they will drop my lap times by at least a couple seconds.

Thanks. I have built high power engines. Two of our cars, the Porsche 944 and Falcon both have fully built engines. I use to work in a high performance shop. On the track though, power is the last thing that needs to be uprgraded and the Z06 and MR2 just aren't there yet. The MR2 is close and the engine will be swapped for the 20 valve motor. That's so awesome that you made a replica of your car! For a while, I was a pretty big GT-3 nut. I had over $2,000,000 worth of cars(16or17, don't remember exactly). My favorite was a C4 Gransport that I had doing close to 800hp, and had it doing over 240mph on the oval top-speed test track. But it was my cousins system, and I gave it back. Oh, well...

There are no rules on following distance, only that the passing car is responsible for a safe pass and will be held accountable for damage if a collision occurs. 3) On a high speed slide that occurs three times in the video, you are correct. Lifting would make it worse. Twice I recoved just fine. The spin happened because my brakes fadded causing a low pedal, causing me to push the gas too far on the heel/toe, causing the car to accelerate when I was already running a bit hot into the corner and on the inside due to traffic. After the heel/toe mistake, nobody in the world would have kept the car on the track and pointed in the right direction.

Several points. 1) The vast majority of these were from the first session that I ran with active handling off. The car behaves quite differently and therefor took a while for me to adapt my inputs and reaction. 2) I'm not trying to drift. And completely lifting WILL imidiately bring the tail in on slides caused by power and at low speed. This long, wide chassis transfers a LOT less wieght than many other cars you may be use to.

Really really need work indeed. Need to learn how to more quickly and fluidly react in such oversteering situations. Don't just hop off the gas the instant the rear begins to slide out, you're sending the weight of the car forward and disrupting the suspension, only making it worse.

I have thought about getting real track tires, but I do need to get decent miles out of my tires as I also use the car for road trips like the 2300 mile one I just got back from and I'm just too poor/cheap to get a complete second set of wheels and tires. I wish they were priced like Miata sizes but they aren't. Have you seen the cost of wheel and track tires in 305/35R18 sizes? Very scary. What's the point? What's the point of any youtube video? The truth is mine are to generate entertainment for me while I'm at work. Have you considered a good street/race combo tire? I am impressed with my Toyo R888s. These are full tread DOT approved tires that hold up as well as full blown track tires at HPDEs (basically treaded track tires that can be driven on the street). They can be used as street tires, but are a bit loud on the road and only last about 5K mi with full time use. The R888s would give you a competitive advantage over straight high performance street tires if you should decide to move up to Green.

Why I haven't gone to green group is that my car is a very nearly stock street car on street tires. Pretty much all the cars in green group look like full-on built race cars to me. But I thought I'd give it a shot anyway.

I posted this video on corvetteforum and got completely blasted be people telling me I'm a menace on the track, I should have been black flagged, other drivers probably want to kill me, I'm an accident waiting to happen, etc. Really surprised me. I know I'm a bit aggressive with my passes, but I wasn't doing this stuff my first day out or anything.
