No one is going to preach to me anything in the Bible to suggest that a felon didn't know he was breaking the law when he committed the crime. Inmates all seem to want to put the blame on every one but themselves. I named some of the most popular for you. I let these guys go out on activities to JESUS groups who were preaching at the prison, I can say the great majority were not genuine, they wanted to get off the block. Sometimes inmates would return early if the preacher was not a lady.

I believe there is a difference between recognizing various acts as wrong versus realizing that inwardly we are wicked and vile sinners in need of a Savior, redemption and a changed heart. Even a person that doesn't do thinks like you and I did, needs to realize that. Many people approach God like the pharisee at the temple in Luke 18, comparing himself to another sinner rather than being like the tax collector who said "have mercy on ME a sinner". Are you still not understanding?

I am no genius but I did at a very early age put all those together and get sin out of it. To me all these things were wrong and that was what sin was...wrongful stuff. I loved to drink and smoke and cruise for burgers and pick up chicks. I even picked up a virgin once and took her back to my apartment and when I found out she was a virgin I was too afraid of Jesus to sleep with her. I knew that taking her virginity was wrong before I read any Bible. So, unsaved we still known wrong. Don't we?

I didn't understand that alcohol, drugs, and crime were simply a byproduct of being a Sinner. I needed to die to my ways, and needed redemption and new life through Jesus Christ. So many seekers come to church and they try applying Christian principles but if they don't die to self, it's all in vain. They don't even experience the true newness of life that's given (see Romans 6) through the New Covenant.

You mentioned "principles" and "re-program" yourself - what didn't you understand that led you into the slammer and consider yourself a "victim" instead of an inmate? I am not buying into anything like brought up ghetto, Daddy left, never knew my Mom,was psycologically abused etc. It all comes down to choices and felons recognize the choices that lead to the slammer.

I didn't recognize the sinfulness of my life. I thought I could just reprogram myself and learns some principles. Tried psychology, acupuncture, counselors, 12 step programs and who knows what else. but it wasn't until I saw the sin problem between me and a HOLY God. Ministers need to point out the sin between Man and a Holy God.

That's interesting and I can believe that some inmates are victims like the person that was along for "the ride" and the driver got out and robbed the liquor store. Of course the guy or girl never dreamed they would be an accessory to armed robbery, did they? Who knows, it could happen. "Spiritual Blindness" come on now don't read into anymore than what I said..when they did the above they knew it was wrong. You were not in prison for being late for church, right?

Most people I talked to, and knew believed they were somehow a victim, not a criminal. They were a product of society or their environment.

You still don't get, forget about your attempts to explain Gospel. My case is this, now read it s l o w. The sinner KNOWS he is doing wrong,that's it, period. If he is a rapist, arsonist, bank robber, murderer etc. He doesn't need Joel or anyone else to tell him he is a sinner. Simply put, you cannot bypass the Cross and confronting people with their sins to properly minister the gospel. THe early church preached faith AND repentance. You can't just add Jesus onto your sinful life and be saved. There needs to be a complete surrender to Him.

Wrong, take it from a former corrections officer and deputy sheriff, people know they are wrong when they do evil deeds. They do not have to be "saved' first or receive the gift of the Holy Spirit to recognize they are performing sin. Enough said, Joel's mission is to get them in, don't worry he has a professional staff to lead them down the Roman's road.
