No marines are a part of the navy. The merchant marine academy trains people to pilot large civilian ships such as supertankers, so that a trained civilian base is ready should the need arise, like in WW2

The Marines are a part of the Dept of the Navy and can commissioned out of the Naval Academy. The Merchant Marine Academy is an entirely different branch, the Merchant Marines.

how much involvement has the Navy had?..really?...what happens when your company comes upon a 'Hodgey' bunker, or encampment and you're too outnumbered to try to attack..you call up an F/A 18 to take care of it..thats how Navy does it

sorry why15dj, USNA graduates nearly 300 (and is continuously increasing) every year. Out of a class of 950+, thats pretty close to 1/3. The army may be designed to sustain and hold while Marines invade, however, they have not lately been acting as they were "designed." Even your SF friends could tell you that. Rangers Lead the Way, Huah!

Its more like a 6th not a third go marine, but I will forgive you for that. Also the Army and Marine Corps have two completly sepereate missions that they both carry out, Marines are designed to invade to be the tip of a spear while the Army is designed to sustain the attack and hold the area taken. Also I know sever guys in the 82nd, 10th Mountain, Ranger Battalions, and SF that would strongly disagree with your statment. Nice try though beaz
