Watched TZ religiously while I was a kid, but as a kid, I didn't realize just how ahead of his time Rod Serling was. A story this dark and realistic was unheard of in the sanitized American media of the 50's and 60's. This was probably the only realistic treatment of nuclear war on television until "the Day After" in the 1980's. During the decades when nuclear war was most likely, TV hardly dared to even approach the subject.

this was the issue of preparation and eternal vigilance...I especially liked the line; "Get ready...make the admission to yourself that the worst was possible...to build a shelter was to admit to the age we live in!" very ominous....

Hey, you're right! That's Grandpa Joe when he was younger. You can totally tell by his distinctive voice. At 1:57 when he starts freaking out, that's how he sounded when he got mad at Willy Wonka at the end of the movie. The original Willy Wonka w Gene Wilder that came out in 1973.
