Lucky. Even though I've got a Dell XPS 720 with an overclocked 3.73 ghz. Intel quad core and 2 GB of RAM, I have to say that a Mac with half of that power would run just as fast. If I would have known how good the Macs were before I got this machine, I would have definatley gone with a Mac. And I HATE WINDOWS VISTA! XP is ok, but vista is junk. I am thinking of getting an iMac. Do you have any suggestions?

No, it doesn't kill the plants, but if it grows on the walkways of our display areas, the walkways can become very slick because of the algae. We don't want our customers (or anyone) falling on the asphalt walkways. That's pretty much the only reason we get rid of the algae.

As much as we use our trimmers around here, yes, we could use it. However, I enjoy working on engines, and I have taken apart and reassembled Stihl and Echo 2 cycle engines. I'm also working on a Briggs and Stratton 6.75 HP which I currently have disassembled down the the piston and crankshaft. Now that I know how the engine works, replacing rings shouldn't be too hard. And yes, my dad had a talk with that employee, this incident occurred over 5 years ago, but the trimmer never ran bad until now

It definitely sucked some crud in. A small piece of rock or some other abrasive material could easily have caused damage to the piston or cylinder. Generally not a good thing. You could try replacing the rings, and maybe "honing" the cylinder, but that's a lot of work. Do you still need that trimmer? You might want to just replace it. You should have a talk with that employee--air filters NEED to be in place and NEED to be cleaned and maintained.

Now that I think of it, I just remembered that one of our employees removed the air filter to clean it, and it wasn't put back on until a few weeks later. Would that cause a compression issue? Because I have done a lot of work on lawnmower engines, and the most common thing that causes hard starting is compression leaks. Could this principle be applied to a 2 cycle engine as well? If so, that's probably the problem. Would I need new piston rings to fix that?

But yes, if pro power equipment companies lowered their quality, yes, they definitely would lose the "pro" from their name. I mean, can you imagine Ryobi getting into professional trimmers? or Homelite? I know they have a "pro" line of equipment, but I never see a pro using Homelite. Oh, and Stihl only sells from individual dealers, right? Because I never see them at Home Depot or Lowes. What's your take on Husqvarna?

As for the hours, wow, yeah, that's a lot of hours. I thought 300 hours was a lot after hearing Echo boast about their 300 hour estimated engine life. That doesn't seem like much now. I've also taken apart Stihl and Echo 2 cycle engines and compared the insides. There is definatley a difference. Ultimately, for me, it's just opinion, and everyone has opinions. What you said is true: everyone has their strenghts and their weaknesses. How would things ever be improved if there was no competition?

When you take a step back, pro power equipment is a pretty competitive market. No company can afford to make junk--you just wont stay in business. Anything you buy is going to be a pretty decent piece of machinery, and it just comes down to individual preferences and features. Stihl is smart and has been developing a massive, reliable dealer network for quite some time. I Interestingly enough, there was, for a little while, a stihl trimmer with a redmax engine.

You should really just avoid dogging the trimmer that much in heavy grass. To be fair, 25 or so cc trimmers really arent made to be doing that much deep, thick cutting. Maybe that redmax is past it's prime, or has been run on some bad/old mix at some point and has bad compression. The whole "near impossible to start again" thing except after many many pulls actually sounds like its flooded. With most equipment, if it floods, unless you take out the plug and dry it out, it takes many pulls.

As for Stihl, ultimately, it's just an opinion for me. I admit I have not tried many other brands. My dad always used Stihl ever since he bought a problem free chainsaw about 10 years ago. We use wood to heat our house, and we sell firewood as well. So it gets used a lot, and it still runs like new. He also had an Echo handheld blower for 25 years, and it was used at the business as well. Yes, Stihl is expensive, but I have never seen one fail. Then again, I have not used as many brands as you.

Interesting. Maybe this Redmax just needs some work or something. Maybe you might know something about this. But it's strange. When the Redmax is cold, it will fire after one or two pulls, and unless you hold the throttle trigger on for about 30 seconds, the engine dies (the idle is set correctly) and is near impossible to start again. (which is what happened in the video) Also, if the engine is shut off to untangle thick grass from the head, it is really hard to start. Carb problem maybe?

the quality just isn't up to snuff. My dolmar ps-510 is made much better than an ms 250, and costs less. It's also made in germany (i wish more stihl equipment available here was made in germany). My stihl ms 460 is a total beast though and I love it. Anyways, the guys here easily put 600+ hours on the redmax units each fall. I've seen them go way more than 5 years, so we're talking 3000+ hours. You really cannot kill them. You can barely tell that they're redmaxs before they're dead.

I'll be honest--I own a pretty wide variety of brands--echo trimmer, stihl chainsaw, dolmar chainsaw, redmax blower, etc. I think everyone has their strenghts and their weaknesses. If I had to go with just one brand for everything, I'd probably go stihl. One thing that you absolute cannot deny about stihl though is that their pricing is quite high. Some of their designs are way out of date (ms 260 going on 18 or 19 years...). Also, with a lot of their midrange equipment (continued next comment)

Where you from? Because here in Missouri all you see is Stihl. Everywhere. From trimmers to chainsaws to blowers and hedge trimmers. And ESPECIALLY the 4 mix engine. Our first 4 mix is going on 5 years, and gets used at least 100 hours a year. My brother has a lawn care business, my dad has a greenhouse business and a country place, and that thing gets the heck used out of it. And we don't use premium oil either. And the only thing we have ever replaced or adjusted is the primer bulb. That's it.

REDMAX runs the show in my area. Not a single professional runs stihl. People have problems with the valves in the 4-mix engines, and you have to run premium with synthetic oil. Seriously, every single pro here (new york) runs redmax backpacks, even though they cost more than the stihls (a ebz 8001 is at least $520 at a dealer here, while you can get a BR 600 for like $450. Redmax makes a more durable, better blower, and I'll also argue trimmer. Stihl chainsaws are great though I have a ms 460!

Well, if you only cut granny's lawn, sure, a Redmax will do fine. But if you've got tough jobs, or jobs that demand dependable equipment, then you need Stihl. That's why over 75% of professional landscapers choose Stihl, especially the 4 Mix Engine. BTW, the Stihl 4 Mix engine has the most torque of any other 2 cycle engine in it's class, it's light, and absolutely no lag or power band. You only have to touch the throttle to get it going. What you're saying is all wrong.

This is after we took the muffler off our 2001 Ford Excursion with the Powerstroke 7.3 Diesel. Sounds much better! I thought it sounded good even without the muffler, Now I would never go back! That diesel growl and whistlin' turbo is a perfect combo!

I used the standard 3.5" pipe. I bought it from a Tractor Trailer supply company in Saint Louis, Missouri for $20. And yes, you can hear the turbo and diesel growl a LOT better! You probably won't notice the intake sound much until you install a performance air filter. Yeah, that's all you need is a few clamps, the right length of pipe, clamp 'er on and your done! And if you have inspections, yeah, you can just slip the muffler back on when it's time for an inspection. Any other Qs let me know!

what kind of pipe did you use for this?? i just took the muffler off of my 99 F350, and i'm gonna do basically what you did, but i'm not sure what to use. and i guess you did notice how much better you can hear the turbo and intake too?? as for inspection, the system is made so that you can take the clamp off, and simply slide the old muffler and pipe right back on...

Wow. I've got a Homelite from the 60s that my Grandpa bought, and it would spank that new one in the video. I don't know much about it other than it is all aluminum and has no safety features, but it's a cutting machine for its size. It's no match for my MS290, but it's not too far behind. I guess Homelite isn't what it used to be... In the interest of science, you ought to try the test again with fresh pro-sharpened chains on both saws though. The chips did look pretty fine.

Yeah, Texas has some hot summers for sure. Maybe even worse than what we get, although we had a few 115F days this past summer... The "problem" where I live, is is rarely gets below 55F. Yeah, I know, that's supposedly perfection, but I disagree. Snowy winters are nice I think and that is non-existent here-we have no real seasons. I've heard the same, but I've also heard that K&N is one of the best air filters for keeping dirt out and letting air in. So far, I have not seen any dirt or dust collecting on the inside of the air intake. Maybe it was some older filters they were using, and they improved them. But yeah, I've heard that before.

The main difference is cost. This costs approx. $0.45 per gallon, while diesel costs approx. $4.00 per gallon. This fuel also lubricates your injectors better, because it is thicker. It also seems to give the engine more power, too. Cold starts may be a little rough, but after 30 seconds they run perfectly. Also, with this fuel you need to change your fuel filters more frequently. If you have any other questions, just fire away!

iwould leave the shift enhancer off and just do the triple dog. but thats just me. and i do have a 1999 ford f250 with the 7.3 and i put an sct on it i like it a lot but i kinda wish i would have done ts performance. ts performance chip gives it 140 hp which is good for the 7.3. cause the 7.3 is not gonna get as much off the computer as the 6.0 will. and yea nice seat. and i would put an exhaust on to keep your egts down

Another thing to remember is these seats are not very popular. We couldn't find any, so we measured the dimensions between the driver and passenger seat, and searched the internet for a seat built for cars that would fit in the space. We found one, but in order for the seat to fit right, we also had to cut the arm rest off the driver and passanger seats. But it was worth being able to seat 9 people. Yes. Now that we have 9 people in our family, we needed another seat, so we removed the center console. It's pretty simple, it unbolts from under the vehicle, and lifts out. The only thing you'll have to remember is the audio controls that are built into the console. These must be connected for the middle and rear speakers to work. Just remove the audio parts from the console, hook them back up, and store them underneath the front seat.

Sure! This Excursion is built on the F-350 frame, and rated to tow 10,000 lbs. max, which is exactly how much our Jayco travel trailer weighs when fully loaded. We've towed other loads that have come close to the max, but the heaviest and longest load as of now is the travel trailer. BTW, I have a video of the travel trailer coming soon if you're interested. I might even hook it up to the Excursion, I've never driven the Excursion while pulling that trailer, so it'll be a first for me!

The second is a Stihl BG85, about 5 years old. The reason why this one went out so quickly is because the on/off switch went out, and we used the choke to kill the engine. NOT A GOOD IDEA! We learned our lesson!

Interesting that you mention a front hitch, we actually have one! We had it installed for a bike rack on the front of the vehicle, but it also works great for "pushing" light trailers into tight spaces! It's a heck of a lot easier, because you can see much better!

Well, 4 low reduces the gearing in the transfer case, not the trans so theoretically 4H and 4L puts the same load on the trans. Reverse gear does not fully mesh with gear on output shaft like the forward speeds do. That's just how mostly all transmissions are. Ford put the reverse gear there to use but I think they need to put a warning on the visor. I have no choice but to back my trailer up hard into the drive but I've got plans for a front 2" reciever.

Hey! Thanks for the tip! I rarely pull in reverse, but it makes me think about backing trailers up our driveway. Sometimes I'll use 4x4 Low when backing our 10,000 lb. travel trailer up our driveway, it's a fairly steep hill. Does that make it easier on the transmission? And yeah, I don't have a passing video @ full throttle yet, but I've got a 0-50 video. I think I'm gonna upload a new video of just the acceleration, because there's a few minutes of just driving before the acceleration. Thanks!

Now that's yardwork! Be careful about pulling heavily in reverse. Not that the tree was too heavy, but reverse is always the weak point in most any trans. 4R100's are pricey to fix these days. I'd really like you to post a high speed pass at wide open throttle when you get around to it. Always entertaining, thanks

Yeah, my mom bought the Troy Built @ Lowes for $100, and she could have gotten a Stihl with Easy2Start starting technology for only $50 more. Oh well, it's nice to have another brand to compare.

The stihl definitely won because it took only one pull to crank and the Troy Built took a few pulls. Although, I thought the Troy Built had pretty impressive cranking over the Redmax. Great video! I'm looking forward to more.

It has a small muffler built into the exhaust pipes after the exhaust manifold. But it doesn't make it very quiet. You're right, it is VERY LOUD! When he fired it up while I was filming, I could literally feel the soundwaves. I don't know if you've felt that before or not, but it was COOL!

i would have saved a week or two and put in either a ford flat head v8 or to save even more time a nice late 60's to 71 ford 302, with a nice little AOD or a 4 speed manual, whatever floats your boat, but this just devalued the car, i would have rather ran the original engine from this 32 regarless if it was a straight flathead 6! or 4! i hate chebby shit in fords, keep it in a 32 chebby oh ya i forgot there is like only 4 that still exist! lol, ford rulez chebby druelz get a ford v8 or leave it

nice blower. i have the same one. mine starts on the 3rd or 4th pull every time and donesn't smoke at all. I use 50:1 mix. I also use a different cold start process though. 1. switch on, choke on 2. one push of the primer bulb 3. Hold at full throttle with finger 4. Pull til it fires (second pull with mine) 5. Turn off choke 6. Pull til start (third or fourth with mine) 7. Release throttle when it starts I love just about any product Stihl makes. Enjoy!

The mix is 40:1 and the blower sat without being used for about 4 months without stabilizer in the fuel, and the temperature was below freezing when I started it. You can check out my other videos of it. But yeah, when it's started on the average day, it starts within 2 pulls and doesn't smoke at all.

Yeah, I know I can't go wrong. Stihl is the best man. I think the fs250 is the most powerful trimmer stihl offers. I'm going for it even if it is $500. I'm sure it's well worth it.
