Actually... Almost all movies are mastered in DTS. Just because it isn't released in a theater in DTS, or on DVD, doesn't mean it was not mastered in DTS. At the VERY end of almost ALL credits, you will see the DTS logo. Meaning it was mastered in DTS, Dolby Digital and SDDS (I don't think most people have ever heard of SDDS, it's Sony Dynamic Digital Sound).

Actually DTS implementation is much more cheaper than DD (in motion movie cinema) cause DTS sound reproduction is consisting of a DTS CD-ROM player and 2 piece of DTS encoded CD-ROM, and at the film reel is the timeline encoded track. Where else DD was embedded on the film reel in-between film reel holes and need a special 'reel' reader to decode signal from the reel, mostly same techniques as they did to DD on LaserDisc.

I remember when DTS was introduced the most movie implementing this sound system is Universal Studio and India's Tamil movie, which could tell this system is really cheap and easy to adopt. Just when digital age is widespread this DD are easy to implement as the requirement is not as stringent as DTS, as Dolby Labs try to regain back they postion on audio entertaiment.

Yes, DTS is much more better, but the requirement of DTS is too much, even for Laserdisc. So producer is much more interested to put DD to the master, as option for DD encoding channel is varies from 2.0 to 7.1, while it could save some spae in DVD for higher video quality.

The biggest advantage that Dolby Digital has over DTS is that Dolby Digital is a mandatory format for DVD, DTV, and HDTV. It's widespread support and cheaper costs make it the most popular surround format available today. That's not to say DTS doesn't sound great, though. It mostly depends on how the audio was mixed.

The stylus in this system did not actually fit into a groove. It was oversised & sat on top of the groove & measured capacitatively the depth which varied. The stylus movement was controlled by some sort of servo mechanism.

Believe it or not, this technology goes back all the way to WWI !! They had television discs even before they had television! Look it up online there are several video example of these high rpm video discs from the early 1920's; the people who have the website should post it up on youtube.

This is a blast from the past, I remember when I was a kid like a little kid I would watch Superman 2000 leagues under the sea Starwars. I am 28 now but my dad would rent the player and then he just bought a VHS player/Recorder ($900)He would copy the CED's to VHS. I remember superman would skip at the scene with the freshly squeezed orange juice.

Unfortunately this video format doesn't have long cycle life like Laserdisc. Shall this product be introduced before Laserdisc and with good attractive price package, it for sure will win the market, and supercede VHS format. And this too long delay of this format has cost RCA great loss in production, somehow that could be avoided.

The biggest problem with these, as they are a Contact medium, they are only good for 500 plays and they degrade. I had some of these as a kid, we had ghostbusters on CED and when Jenene was talking to Winslow about Atlantis the disc would skip with the effect of her saying At-lan-lan-tis

I'm truly impressed at the workmanship; they don't make electronics like this anymore (even better than stuff from its time), beyond industrial even! I commend all who made this technology possible; it was no failure. In my opinion the most solid built electronic machine made... these players are boss!!

The inside even smelled like fresh solder! And yes if you service machines that need soldering, you know that smell, the smell of circuit vitality. This machine was indeed built to last; it worked without a problem upon engaging my first disc. As well CED's do present good enjoyable picture and sound.

I did my research and decided to get one of the best players made (need stereo!), I decided on the SGT-250 over the 400 series due to they are notorious for being the most solid built, shipping service can be rough... I was not disappointed! It came in original box no less, and the unit looked immaculate. I opened the stylus access door and the inside looked untouched, no dust, just like the laboratories they came out of the players mimicked the conditions to shield its inner mechanisms.

I think it would be a good idea if we could get DVD collections of video demos. I mean those that would show the quality of various video formats (i.e., Super VHS, D-VHS, Super Beta, ED Beta, Video 8, Hi-8, Laser Discs, etc.). The first HDTV demos outa be included. There are such demos posted here on YouTube. Notice how many people are getting HDTVs these days (I got my first one in April 2008). Most of the demos would have lower resolution than an HDTV but may still look great.

This was the first reenactment I went to and I loved it. Only thing, I would say your comment, "A reminder that many died for our freedom" is bull. The federal government fought to keep the South from becoming an independent nation, sort of like King George fought to prevent the colonies from becoming an independent nation. The Civil War did not preserve freedom. Actually it was a war over taxes, and not freedom or slavery.

it's funny, I recently was in a Bose outlet store and they gave a presentation that was basically the reverse of this, it essentially said "fuck this obnoxious setup, get one box and these tiny speakers and that's all you need!" I have to say, it did have some hella good sound quality. Oh, and I just bought my first laserdisc player today on eBay :)

Historic introduction to the early days of home theater. This promotion is typical, since most average people did not have home theater in the late 80s and into the 90s. My uncle still has that pioneer receiver and speakers works great to this day. He purchased it with an RCA 36" tube TV in the late 80s. Considered high end at the time.

it's on all videodiscs from 1982+ but i think the intro itself was made in 1981. if you seen the original open to this, it says 1981, but i think it was made as early as 1978 (RCA abandoned metalized discs in 1977), as early test discs from that time had the intro somewhere in the disc (sometimes it would only be on side 2, sometimes it would be at the end!). if you want more info, go to cedmagic com

Nice. The players I've got are an SJT-200, SGT-250, and a Hitachi VIP-2000R. The Hitachi has got the best picture of the bunch. But, it's not the most reliable, aside from the fact that replacement styli for it are hard to find.
