No disrespect meant to Halle - she just wasn't a different face that had the name Selina Kyle AKA "CATWOMAN". These women were all supposed to have been 1 person. I don't know what their being black women has to do with iit n your point of view? The reason Halle's character wasn't included is because she was an off shoot of the "original character" completely made up from scratch with nothing to do with the DC Comics incarnation of CATWOMAN who was a rival/love interest to Batman. They only link Halle's character has to that is the fact that "Batman's Catwoman" was a prior incarnation of the "there is one for every generation" story.

The reason I didn't care for Lee Meriwether's Catwoman is because, to me it felt like a "pseudo-Julie Newmar" because Julie was committed to another movie at that time and she wasn't available. Same reason why Eartha played the role in 3rd season Julie was tied to another project . But at least they went a completely different route with Eartha, Did that make sense?

This was a great summer show once they had removed Rick Dees from the show. I believe Melissa Manchester was the host that week. Wish Janeen had stayed with the show as she was the best! This clip comes from my hometown station CFCF 12 Montreal- they used to show SG 2 AM Mondays after the late movie. Personally I watched the show Saturdays on WPTZ or WMTW from New England as I couldn't wait until Monday..

Actually the tall blonde in this episode is Janeen Best (now Damian) - she replaced Lezlie. This is her second stint as a SG Dancer. This is my 3rd attempt to respond, don't know why it isn't taking. I have compared this performance to the "commercially released" version and IF he isn't lip syncing, then they recorded a SG version of this song for him to lip sync. You can hear his vocal straining very clearly and the "This is to good to be true" is the dead give away - it sounds nothing like the album version, His voice doesn't sound tracked in that part for this performance. My 2 cents..

yeah he isn't lip syncing you can tell as an Artist myself you have good shows then you have bad ones...this is a good one but he is different then the CD version as people call it, he isn't lip syncing you can hear the breaths and the little vibrato that is due to being a lil nervous

Unfortunately no. I have always lived in So Cal but before attending university, I lived about 3.5 hours from LA/Burbank and didn't get the opportunity to attend the tapings at the KTLA studios. I started university in the fall of 84 and by that time the moved the tapings to Paramount Studios and Deborah had left the show. :-(

I think we all had our favorites from the orginal group and losing them took it's toll on the show. I am glad to see that even with the changes, we found others to admire (with or without resembling originals). For me there was no replacing Tony or Deborah, but the new dancers shined brightly in their own special way......

They were great, they played at a local university. I was 15 and my friend's brother was part of the fratewnernity that organized the gig. They came onstage and looked down at us and said "We're The Vapors from England and we've brought our own mods" and after the show soent a good hour chatting with us. They were way better live than on record!

looking back at SG and other shows, at the beginning they probably had low budgets starting off. Then as the show progressed, more money was made available which led to more set designs, more costumes (and hotter costumes), ect!!! Just like you, I am glad that more costumes was introduced, but the same outfits did not make the show boring for me!!! The lady dancers kept SG more and more interesting for me!!!

I always and still to this day compared Pam with Holly from "The Price is Right!" They have the same smile, facial expressions, and look in their eyes! Pam (along with Deborah, Lezlie, and Jamilah) seemed to me to be "a chameleon" as a SGDancer. One moment Pam would be sexy, then sweet, then exotic, then the girl-next-door, then something else. I can recall, on one episode, a substitute male dancer (that looked like the other guy from Solid Gold '79) appeared briefly during a partnered routine in the countdown. The opening number and closing only consisted of seven dancers. The Pat Benatar-looking dancer was also on that episode. Once you think about it, Solid Gold threw a lot of variations at us through the years. I guess only the truly die-hard fans would catch it...lol.

Yes - you are correct. Gayle was in the Pilot Special then couldn't be in the first season of SG because she was perfoming on Broadway in NYC and returned once her gig was up and returned when an availble spot came up. I got that info DIRECTLY from Gayle herself on one of my many visits to see a taping of the show.

My brother had sent a copy of the original back home during his stint in the navy, and since I couldn't read the Japanese on the single, my mother had to tell me it was in Japanese. My fascination with the language and culture started when I was maybe 3 or 4-- now I'm a full-blown interpreter. This is my first seeing this performance on Solid Gold and back then I was to see them perform this song and never got to see it, I may have missed that show or the station that carried the show didn't air it, but I remember the one with Smokey Robinson that Dionne Warwick mentions at the end. You can see the closing now on my channel! I have now posted the most accurate versions of the Opening/Closings for all 8 seasons I could possibly manage with the footage in my possession. I know I will need to rework the Opening for the Rick Dees one, but I have yet to locate an opening starting all the way at "Welcome to Solid Gold" by R.W. Morgan. All I have are pieces that start with the dancers doing the #10 song.

Yes, I jacked this one up but at the time it was the only footage I had. I have recently come across more footage and am creating newer ones that are "Accurate" as possible. Please note in other versions the dancers outfits in the opening are the same as closing meaning they came from one (the same) episode as aired back in the day! Sorry for my error - it was one of my 1st tries and 25 years later! OOPS! I've never read the credits to see if her name is listed.

I don't know that it was an "offical" costume, but in a least 1 episode, where she was "in the west" she wore a red long sleeve top, white riding pants, her red and white boots, tiara, belt, lasso and bracelets. I would have to say that Pam is my favorite dancer also. Her overall look was GREAT, her dance style was AMAZING, in person she was/is a gracious lady, and being on the show for 6 seasons you got to see her grow and mature as a performer. It really wasn't until doing these "Spotlight" videos that I really appreciated Gayle for her dance ability. Back then I was too into Pam, Deborah and Tony....

I was luck enough to have met Gayle during the 84-85 season (her last season on the show). She explained to me why she was in the pilot, but not in the 1st two seasons (she was working on Broadway in NYC - and could do the SG TVweekly series). You are right, she was very nice and personable.

Thanks for all the great video posts. Debra was always my favorite, but Gayle was a close 2nd. I met Gale at the mall in Hercules Ca. When she and Leslie appeared on the Today Show. They did a little dance routine. Wow to see them perform live was a great memory. When I met her after the show she was VERY nice and personel. Keep the clips comming. Thanks again.

Thank you. Gayle was one of my favourites. She was the classiest SG dancer. I loved her hair, legs, smile and general demeanour. I was upset when she left. Sunday 5pm use to be the highlight of my weekend when these great dancers came on. Miss the 80's and miss SG.

Yes - this is from 1 single episode. I have seen it posted before also, but I don't know that they used it in another weekly countdown. It is quite possible, that if this episode originally aired in the fall of 1985 they used the footage again in the Countdown 85 special (airing in Feb. 1986). For some reason they re-used A LOT of dancer footage in that special.
