Alright, I will give it a try sometime, but I scrubbed mine with an old toothbush and even that didn't do the trick. Still sharpens though. I might get me the spyderco sharpmaker, seems to get all your knives razor sharp. The ultra fine rods come seperate then right?

I never got into using my flat side on the rods I have, doesn't seem to make any difference in my opinion. I always use the round sides. Mine are black from sharpening so many knives, mine and other peoples as a favor. Do you know of a way to clean them?
