No, it's called a super-conductor. It's not a magnet. The brass disc is a magnet. Basically superconductors don't like magnetic fields, so they reflect them back upwards. The superconductor is not a magnet.

No actually, it's magic.

it's just nitrogen, i saw this on Discovery Channel

some guy showed me that at the mall its a magnet

i think black cube is magnet and other one is just piece of metal ant the liquid could be liquid nitrogen, it freezes the magnets negatives and pozitives poles and the forces become equal some metal floats, and when magnet is out of liquid it ganes pozitives poles and pulls metal towards.

WTF?

Not quite nzoomed, magnetic fields and gravitational fields are very different! I have no idea how this works but I'd love to know! I don't trust any of these comments to be correct

WoW! That kind of Work should be shown to the whole world for physics to take us to the new level...Now this is like Physics Technology! ++++++++++ Respect to the maker and the uploader of this video!...

im not gonna tell you because, fankly, i have no idea. but i remember another video explaining it fully i just cant for the life of me remember

A superconductor is a ceramic material that conducts materials impressively, this property could only be reached by extremely cooling down a material. (Using nitrogen, 77 Kalvin Boiling point) Its called "The Meissner effect. Note that magnetic fields cannot pepetrate through a superconductor, so it is mirrored instead, causing the force lines (Vector Property)to interact and mantain the magnet in place.

"it cant be magnetic because he waves that slip of plastic or whatever under it and it didnt move. if it was magnetic it would cut of the magnetism" I love stupid comments like that.

what the heck??? awesome!

it's called a super magnet. a compound of metals when super cooled (hence the liquid nitrogen) can cause a very very very strong magnetic force!!!

noooooooo wayyyyy!
By: mackodoodle. on 06 Oct 08, 15:35:03
he chaned the polarity ofthe disk and the gas is holding it in place simple and im only in 8th grade kinda like the lhc in sweden
By: nzoomed. on 06 Oct 08, 14:51:25
we need to learn how to do this with gravity and we could make anti gravity machines!
By: LanceTheBlueKnight. on 06 Oct 08, 14:15:01
You can't 'block' magnetism any more than you can 'block' gravity.

Meisenner effect
By: PsycoKrazy. on 06 Oct 08, 13:20:02
Wouldnt it block the magnetic path between them???
By: DisneyDude2009. on 06 Oct 08, 13:00:06
yes but if the magnetism is strong a small bit of plastic would make no difference..
By: PsycoKrazy. on 06 Oct 08, 11:36:39
it cant be magnetic because he waves that slip of plastic or whatever under it and it didnt move. if it was magnetic it would cut of the magnetism
