OMG you are so right. Jin, DBSK, SuJu, Kat-Tun, and Hey!Say!Jump! aren't considered the "manliest" of men, but they are the MOST DESIRED among women in Japan. I remember when Jap. exchange students came to our school, they told us that they were use to some of the men in their town wearing make up & wearing bright clothes. It's just the fashion now. I think it's great. & their bento boxes were SO ADORABLE IT WAS CRAZY lol. ^_^

About the Japanese dictionary thingy, for a while I was looking to buy one... and my Best friend's Mom ( who is Japanese) came to visit my family. She brought with her a Japanese English dictionary... But guess what it was on?..... Nintendo DS!!!! Think of the price of a DS($129.99)+ dictionary (Kanji Sonomama Rakubiki Jiten) (I brought it @$40)... The price is 48.90 now. and in total.. it was under $200!!! Plus u can do other stuff with the DS! Nice investment!

As for hair care I am kicking myself because I came across a site a year ago for American products that are shipped to foreigners in Japan and now I can not find it! If I do I will post it. I wear my hair natural and alternate with wigs. Try doing a hot oil treatment with olive oil OR coconut oil. Be careful putting a chemical on it if it is too dry. Shiseido Tsubaki Shampoo & Conditioner is good BTW.

Dry hair and chemicals may not mix well. Make sure to check out YouTube videos of sister who use ingredients found in your cabinet or kitchen (ie eggs, olive oil, aloe vera gel) and start mixing up concotions with what is available in Japan. Going natural doesn't always mean dreads, how about wearing your afro texture?

I wore my hair natural for a long time. now i use texterizer. but for dryness ...mix aloe vera gel the drug store with conditioner put plastic cap on ur head for deep condition. Dilute shampoo. its drying on black hair. olive in spray bottle for oil sheen. if u need more tips let me know.

Hey! I ENJOY your videos. I am signing up for JET this month and I have been preparing for 2 years now as to what I would have to do if I didn't have the products that I need for my hair. I have done a bit of research about the chemicals and the Japanese perm/perm press... please be careful if you choose to get it. With ethic/kinky or natural hair it can be even more damaging to our hair. I will take note about buying a wig for those days when my hair needs some help. But i plan to go natural.

Vending machines are in abundance - you can get everything and anything from a vending machine- even batteries!!! My daughter was fascinated with the Japanese toilets- especially when you flushed the toilet with a water spout. It would pour water to wash your hands. I get that too whenever I let someone know that I'm studying Japanese and will go 2 Japan someday they respond, "Why", in a negative sense. I don't let it get to me because it's fun for me and it's what I want 2 do. thanks for the videos, it gives me more insight of Japan and how us American foreigners can be there. You know what girl? They jealous. They jealous because you can go to such an impressionable country to so many who have never been to Japan, yet you remain yourself. You come across as so strong in who you are. People's problem is they have a perception of who they think you are and who you are supposed to be. You are beyond that and they can't help it. Great video! Liked the Apartment. About that typhoon. About the typhoon, if it anything like the hurricanes in America, I don't think you should stay by yourself during them. I lived in Florida almost my whole life and been through good hurricanes (meaning just a little debris and a few power lines down) an through some bad ones ( lots of houses destroyed). This was a very insightful video... although I haven't yet had the pleasure to travel abroad it is something that I plan to do in the near future. Japan looks like a beautiful country with many different things to explore and yes homesickness does happen but what you said is the truth. On two occasions, I had people just walk up to me &strike up a conversation. People will take an interest in you. I also had a young boy run up to me and bravely say Hello! in-depth on-line reserch b4 going is key -get urself a strong support system such as other foreigners, who can anticipate what u will need to function&can lead u to other people, events. Alafia's posts are a nice start,she's not homesick. I also nvr felt homsickmy short stay(3wks)Japan is a great country. So YOU can do it!

Also -I think ppl should know that Homesickness is a "stage" that travelling abroad4long periods of time happens. Sometimes it can also just be a combination of un-realized jet-lag, long-term adjustment to a new time zone and it's affect on the body can give low energy; subtle mental toll of not speaking the native language&the day to day expense of feeling slightly disconnected/alienated as a result. Oh my poor Alafia, when I was abroad I found the best way to deal with homesickness was little momentos I had from home. Although I did stay very busy when I had downtime it was always nice to find a place to relax and blow off steam. Luckily for me baseball was the jam. I love the Nipon Ham Fighters! LOL

thats actually not true. If you have time, look into the "indigenous" people of Japan. I forget the name right now but they have hair much like Polynesians. Some of their descendants to this day have retained curl much like an afro but just like in the US they have relaxer systems to make their hair straight.

if youve got a soft curl u might be able to use the Japanese thermal straightening. it doesnt work on my hair so i use perms from home. Im gettingt touchup instructions translated so that i can get a shop to do my hair. it may be a bit expensive but if you want to keep your hair straight you may have to invest in one stylist wherever you live

Hello. :) I am living in Japan for study abroad in the akita prefecture. Most of the people I have met have been very friendly. The only time I felt that I stood out because of my race was when I was walking in the streets of Akita city and this middle age woman openly pointed at me with her mouth opened wide. I just smiled and waved back. I really haven't had a problem with race. The only thing that really worries me about Japan is my hair. However, I may try your suggestion. Good video. Bye.

I can now do my own micros, braids, etc in Japan now because there are a few shops around in Japan that sell packs of synthetic hair for a good price. (Malibu) They also braid but its sooo expensive. However, the oils and stuff my mom has to send over. Be careful with your hair because if you dont have a water filter in your shower when you wash your hair, it will fall out! The water here is very harsh on black hair so i keep it braided up a lot. A lot of black women have that problem here.

im african american but my hair can not take braids so i just do the wash and set and relaxer (touch up) so have you found a salon or any one that look like they can do hair do they have alternative their for your hair i mean products ohh have you meet other people of colors or people who are not from japan
