Just a theory: There is an optical illusion involving two parabolic mirrors, the top one with a hole in the center. An object placed between the two mirrors will have its 'reflection' projected in 3d above the hole. I have actually seen this done in person at a museum. Point: This may employ similar ideas to that. With regards to the article, I only have a vague recollection of what it was about.

Projecting onto air is an important breakthough in photo physics, if true. Sure it wasnt a "vapour" projection system you saw? Or the japanease one that littarly causes tiny mm explosions in the air? (last i saw that was just a "red dot" only projection system, but it was the closest to free floating sci-fi holograms we have got.

No; I actually did read about this a while ago when it was still in basic stages; i.e. they could only project a few letters with a smaller device. But it does project on "air." I honestly forget how, though. I read the article a long time ago. But this looks like it. Go look up Cheoptics; I'm not going to - this honestly doesn't serve a purpose no matter how cool it it.

the fact everything is rotating all the time indicates strongly it isnt true volumetrix 3d. However, it could still be steroscopic 3d from the various angles. I wish I could tell what it was being project *on* I assume theres some clever material planes in there.
