I know exactly what you are talking about, Steve, and I agree. Scriptures say that we should help those who are also struggling to help themselves. I'll be damned before we open our doors to a couple that has refused to listen to us and prepare as they were warned to do. But people that have listened and heeded God's word will be welcomed to whatever we can help them with. In theory it is possible to have both. Oil is a finite resource and we were using about 85 million barrells a day prior to the contraction. Thats a lot of oil in anyones language. if we don't start soon our Great Grandchildren will not get the opportunity to board a plane. Basically we don't run out, but energy will get that expensive, that our economies will all totally crash and Governments will make their own power structure priority, meaning the poor will get dropped out of the system and left to starve in a slow and inhuman process. While richer people can afford to switch to new technologies and afford food & energy if/when available, for as long as it lasts!

well according to the International Energy Agency , (we) the western industrialized world, would need to get Africa to supply maxed Oil output yesterday (ASAP)! then we can sustain Growth for another 40 years. But within that time, we need to get more efficient and start transition of around 3-7% to alternative energies per year and replace 30-40% oil for natural gas So work it out and watch the news, I don't see anything in that direction happening just yet.

out of 80 countries 50+ are in decline. the biggest finds were in the 50's & 60's this financial crisis will slow down growth and consumption, buying the world a little more time, but in Jan OPEC will supply 2million barrels a day less and Mexico will stop exporting to the US in 2012 .... So we're seeing EU/US & NATO getting geared for a war in Africa soon with a UN mandate and the "we bring democracy" crap again to meet Chinas investments done there in the past 10 years

I am undecided about peak oil. On the one hand it certainly looks like oil has peaked and nations are sure acting like this. eg, the US in the middle east. But then you have Lindsay Williams and others who say there is plenty and the big oil companies don't want a flood of oil on the market. How can I be sure which is true?

Destiny of Diatribes: I used to work as a programmer at Lockheed and manufacturing at both IBM and Hitachi. I'd rather be back more into programming and learn further of the latest manufacturing techniques, but these things taking place affect or will affect most people. And its more important to share, inform and warn others about whats going on. Hopefully some will wake up or at least look up. I still do some programming but not as much as I want and like. Even play a few video games :)

Grab a book, something mindless, and go down to that beautiful Laguna Beach for the day. As far as TV shows my favorite is Jon Stewart. He discusses a lot of this stuff with humor injected. You can only plant seed's and tend to the crop's that sprout. A farmer has a understanding, you must care for the sprout all the way to harvest. So many people are pushed into bringing people to church, when they don't understand the Gospel. Jesus, showed us the Church is a family with many parts. It is strange how sharing your views on upcoming events can alienate you from your friends and family. My own brother and two of my sisters won't even talk to me anymore. They don't like having the gilded cage they live in shaken. What am I going to do when they come to me for aid? While they are buying flat screen TVs I am preparing for hard times. I've been spreading the word since last november (um, I mean november of 07). Most of them blew me off until recently. At work people would roll their eyes and call me "chicken little" and flap their arms while saying "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" in a high little voice. That stopped a few months back. Now when I'm in the break room during lunch and a news story comes on about the economy. I give it right back to my coworkers, and do the flapping arms, "sky is falling" thing.

My family stopped doing Christmas years ago. It just seemed so stupid for a bunch of people to buy things for other people when they don't really know what they want. I do buy presents for family or friends but it's not on xmas. And only if I'm sure they want it. For employment, I've heard that banks are hiring people to cleanup foreclosed property. Some might need repairs too, broken mirrors and windows and such. Have you looked into getting some of that action?

Yes I would say that it is a sign of the times. A friend of mine told me this. Food pantries are running out of food. In the northern Rogue Valley in Oregon, the 7th Day Adventist church has a food pantry that serves the folks who live on the fringe ... mountain people and gypsies and miners are coming by for food and hep more than in any of the previous years.

I do a huge charity event every year for christmas were folks send christmas cards to those in need. You can google 2008 Angel Card Project to see the webpage I made for the project this year. I had 300 people in the receiving list this year, which is more than I have ever had in years past. I was kind of amazed at the amount of people who signed THEMSELVES up to receive cards this year. I guess it's a sign of the times that we are in.
