The test is moot. I have a Univalve and to me it sounds much better when you use it clean with a modeller for lead sounds. The clean Roll channel doesnt alter the sound much from patches. Cranking it up on Rock channel is less effective, and brash.

It seems to me that if you are going to do a A/B video comparison of products whose entire purpose is to create sound, you should do a little better than the built-in mic in the camcorder; especially considering that guitar amps will quickly overpower a mic with no input gain control.

I thought the Windsor sounded better when you had the amps backed off a bit, but to me the UniValve sounded better when going full out. It'd be nice to hear both through a 4x12, or even a 2x12 as I think that'd give both a chance to open up more. All in all though, a good and thorough comparative, which I think should be done more in video reviews. Cheers!

The Windsor is the worst. I'm only saying because I've tried one. Nothing but squash and saturation and no definition. A cheap amp and rightly priced. I like your tubescreamer shootout on a previous posting and if that's with the THD I wouldn't even think twice about getting rid on the Windsor. I'm not sure where Peavey's going with their new line of amp brands. I fear they are becoming a company that does many things but none of them very well. Extremely unfocused.

the Univalve's sound is amazing, its very natural, the windsor does seem a bit "sponged up" overdrive, but it is still a very nice smooth tube overdrive. Overall, though the tone is nicer from the THD, the windsor wins for the very close tone and the difference in price.

It also has it's own power soak/hot plate, so that would put the price of the THD even higher if you were to buy the head($999.00-$1,119.00)-cab($100-$1500 (or more))-hot plate($329.00-$369.00), or the Windsor($400) combo. You would be paying "at least" $1500 for the THD setup, while paying a one time $400 for the Peavey combo amp.

I have never heard the Univalve in real life but in every single demo I've heard it in I've noticed the same harshness that's just an inherent part of it's sound. Also if you check out HC reviews there are plenty of people who complain about the raspyness. It's pretty much a no brainer to pick up the Windsor considering it's cheaper and sounds better to my ears. Peavey ftw!
