She and I both prefer the extended keyboard. I've used it (customizing it in preferences) in every first-person shooter since Wolfenstien 3D 15 years ago. She seems already becoming hooked on the same method. Saves re-familiarity across games. Besides, if she used "WASD", I'd not be able to message simultaneously while she played. ;) Thanks for the "suggestion." ;)

I understand your view. But, understand that this is not the norm for her. She only has educational software, is a scholarly child, prefers reading to gaming, prefers the outdoors, and when she is on the computer not playing educational software, she's on Nick Jr.'s website. The video is not a statement in how willing I am to expose her to material above her age as it is a child brilliantly performing at a game. The grand total of her playing this game at all is about 45 minutes total! Ever!

She'll say "i played a video game." She's not confused about the difference between unreal, cartoony experience of a video game and real life. Any person who is, adult or kindergardener, has a problem larger than merely not exposing them to video games can be expected to help. My job isn't simplisticly to deny exposure to adult materials; it's introduce them at a contolled pace to make sure my values concering them are learned. I'm less of a stop sign and more of a control valve.

Well, in all fairness, I edited out quite a bit of lost engagements, but I've noticed that she'll usually wind up with about 10% of the winning frag count (if the top frag was about 50, she'll have gotten about 5, roughly). Not bad at all.

Oh yea, they're definately still around. Unless you live somewhere very rural, you should be able to find some, but they're easily overlooked. We have two in our area, this is our favorite (the other is VERY retro, disco ball and all, but we don't care for the wood floor as much). Our girl would rather skate in a rink than anywhere else, and prefers against blades (raised her old school!) :) And you should try to make it a point to patronize them, to keep 'em around.

Wow, I didn't know they still had places like this. I thought that rollerblades had killed off rollerskates completely. I remember celebrating birthday parties at a roller rink. There was a big disco ball on the ceiling and we would skate to songs like Jump, and the Ghostbuster's theme. Ahh, those were the days.

Thanks so much! I enjoy the everyday stuff so much more than the extraordinary stuff (like weddings, graduations, etc.) as it captures what we will miss most later. We all think to bring out cameras to the special occasions, but we should think to bring it more on common days, too. And like you say, it's what the kids themselves want to see most later too, a sample of their real life long gone.
