Are you kidding me? AK influenced virtually every electric guitarist after him including Slowhand and Hendrix. He could solo on 5 notes for hours . . . .
By: codehendrix. on 04 Sep 08, 23:39:33
his tone is unmatched... beautiful.. and oh so very funky!
By: grga888. on 04 Sep 08, 13:23:49
Yeah, that is true! And yeah, the In Session CD is mindblowing!
By: frankmessa. on 04 Sep 08, 13:22:20
True enough from watching this video... they play quite differently on their respective solos. You are right... SRV had his own style and no one will ever match it. I just think its cool to see the student / master relationship. Actually, if you listen to the entire Session album, there's a lot of discussion between Stevie and Albert talking about when they first met.
By: grga888. on 04 Sep 08, 13:00:22
Influence yes, but SRV did no ripped of Albert King! SRV had his own style, playing and passion for the guitar! Albert King influenced Stevie, but that is all, cause SRV had his own style that nobody will ever match! And check again, neither by the licks, tone, sound, complete playing, they really are far from being the same! They are both very different from each other!

grga... from the point of view of the tone of the two guitarists - quite different. Really, I'm speaking from the influences of Albert on Stevie - what great thief SRV was! As we all are... how else do we blues guitarists gain inspiration. Just listen to Laundromat Blues live recording and compare it to Texas Flood or Sky is Crying. Hendrix too... what a great influence he was on Stevie as well!

"My whole life has been one big fight" Whoa, you sing it, Mr. King!
By: grga888. on 30 Aug 08, 03:27:32
They don't sound similar at all! You can hear a bit of the influence, but nothing more than that!
By: volcomsk8er12366. on 29 Aug 08, 18:28:26
I can see how he influenced SRV.
By: grga888. on 26 Aug 08, 11:39:35
Not true, Albert and Stevie don't sound similar at all! They are way to different, Albert King is one of the finest and best blues players ever, and Stevie is the best and most talented rock and roll and blues force in guitar history after Jimi Hendrix!
By: imbigbarbagello. on 26 Aug 08, 07:39:15
hell yeah this guy is the shat
By: frankmessa. on 21 Aug 08, 07:26:15
This is one of my favorite videos... I've watched it over and over. For a real good Stevie Ray / Albert King comparison, check out Albert's "Laundromat Blues" live recording... Note for note, the same licks found in many SRV tunes.

albert was the greatest

Freddy King
By: JohnGaltX007. on 18 Aug 08, 22:09:19
all of this racism stuff aside... Who do you guys think i better: Albert King or Freddy King?
By: germany10. on 17 Aug 08, 03:04:33
When I was looking in a guitar tab book, I saw some blues licks of King's and it helped get me into the blues and playing it on guitar. They're simple licks, that just sound good when played good. BB King is similar in that respect, they just pick the right notes.
By: specter1001. on 16 Aug 08, 16:49:39
can someone tell me who the other guitarist is??????
By: TheDistortionist. on 14 Aug 08, 11:02:57
You know, not every black musician in America is a rap artist, jerk.
By: jedimastereddie. on 11 Aug 08, 20:10:23
its cool to see an old bluesman like him playing a v, thats just awsome.
By: pnbibbins. on 06 Aug 08, 18:10:26
You're dead on with most of what you're saying. But when it comes to SRV, I think you miss it. The man dripped soul in his voice and guitar work. As an example, listen to Stevie's "Ain't Gone Give Up On Love". It's what we in the black community call "cold", meaning the absolute real shit. Stevie's the only white blues player that I ever heard other black people say that about. The thing is, Stevie was a technician and a "feeler". He could put all his emotion in one note when he wanted too.

Yah shut up, I'm trying to hear the music.I hate it when people talk while the musics playing!!
By: ezekielthemack. on 04 Aug 08, 00:43:33
@OregonGrappler Firstly you need to look up the meaning of the word racism before mis-using it. What I said had nothing to with racism, it was purely an opinion based on observation. The reason why I wasn't attacked for being racist is because more discernible people than yourself would realise that what I said was NOT racist. As for country music, if you knew your musical history, you'd know that it is born out of the blues hence country music has often been termed "white man's blues".
By: OregonGrappler. on 03 Aug 08, 21:49:20
bro you can't make a racist statement and claim the opponet is stupid. FEEL is a matter of opinion and i believe SRV has the feel, the only reasonyo u waren't being attacked for racism on here is it's pro minority. if you were to say black guys can't play country ( which i'm not saying, btw) you'd be tarred and feathered racism is just as hurtful both ways around and you should be ashamed for defending it.
