Okay? Is that an attempt to counter the FACT that we export oil to Brazil and Argentina? Or are you still trying to live out your fantasies on YouTube of being a Jeopardy champion? I'm not sure what you're debating, but my point is still valid. Clearly, these countries are purchasing our oil because it is economically beneficial to do so. So, if we stop those exports, we risk causing economic problems in those countries. Especially Argentina. (Look it up.) Are you for fuel subsidies too, champ?

Actually, according to the EIA (Energy Information Administration), Brazil is importing oil to the US...not much, but still. Our exports go to Singapore, S. Korea, Japan, China, and Canada (odd since they are our largest importer). Again, this information is in episodes 5-1 through 5-4 (our big special on OIL).

I stand corrected. I didn't notice an important denotation about the chart I was reading. Anyway, my point is still valid. You cut exports to countries like Brazil, Argentina, or Jamaica, you're going to make things more difficult for the people in those countries. We've seen it in our own country which is far more economically stable than most. If the rising cost of oil is causing the inflation of prices here, it certainly will in those countries.

um....dear. You need to go watch episodes 5-1 through 5-4. We exported an average of 1.6 million barrels of oil a day in the first four months of 2008. And Canada is the top importer of oil into the US, followed by Saudi Arabia, and then Mexico (Jan.-April 08). So yeah, those episodes might fill in some holes there. :-)

So, I agree that we need to free ourselves from oil. It's just dangerous that our livelihood is dependent upon countries that are so politically unstable.

We only export 50,000+ barrels a month. That's around 1,700 barrels a day. The U.S. consumes over 20 million barrels a day. Most importantly perhaps, we ship some of that oil to smaller countries that don't consume as much as we do, and are not nearly as economically stable as we are. Therefore, stopping those exports in an attempt to bring down prices of gas here not only seems rather futile when you compare our exports to our consumption, but it might throw other economies into a tailspin.

Excellent job! I totally agree with a boycott of Exxon Mobil. The fact that they are profiting as lots of us struggle to meet everyday expenses is just unreal. Thanks for keeping us all informed!!!
