City defense is more annoying, usually with a full 20 units i will place 4 to 6 archers ont eh outer wall, along with 4-6 in the courtyard, protected by 2 lines of 3-5 spearmen. this tactic, allows me to delay them outside the walls as long as possible, and then when they are a bit whittled down, when they come through the streets they come from one direction and my spearmen hold the courtyard and my mass of archers rain arrows down on them. but with cities, 2 or 3 mongol armies always win

and usually ill place 2 more naffatun on the flanks (protected but still up front) or i wont have anymore naffatun left at all and ill place 4-6 archers in the rear along with archers on other parts of the wall so that my spearmean can hold a line, and my archers can pelt the enemy while they are held from both above, and behind and from the sides. if all goes well i can slaughter at least 2 mongols/timurid armies, and a good portion of the time i remain in control because time runs out.

they move on and finally kill what all i have, and thats jsut the first gate, the second gate usually is more effective because of the narrowness of the streets, my two archers units are able to concentrate fire, and the towers usually have ballistas so they are concentrated as well, at this point the naffatun break almost any unit that gets too close with a ram or ladders. if thsi fails and they reach my final wall, i form my troops with 4 spearmen in front, 2 sword infantry in the rear,

usually i make it so that whatever castle or city im trying to hold has a full 20 units, because mongols and timurids attack anyways. the tactic that i found to work the most is that i will use 4 archer units and 2 naffatun to defend the first two gates of a castle, archers on either side of the gate on the walls and naffatun in the center. by doing this, they face torrents from 4 towers, 240 archers and the naffatun screw their morale very badly, usually i can kill half or more before

Problem with holding the city center against the mongols, timurids, and turks is that a large amount of their army is made up of archers. So while you are holding a street with just 1 division their entire army is firing arrows into your ranks. A more successful strategy I have found is to put archers on the two walls bordering the gate, so your towers are manned and after entering their army stops to until they have died (Their archers duel yours). From there it changes depending upon my units.

the turmids and i are the only 2 factions left on my campaign, my empire stretches from the americas all the way to former russia and straight down to africa. in one group, the turmids launched an attack with 14 armies in one spot, the entire turmid force at the first battle was counted as 24,867 men, all peasants, and barbarians really, but i only had 1,600 professional soldiers, 4 cannons and some musketeers. wave after wave happened. 10,000 enemy lay dead and all of mine were slaughtered.

I study sociology and psychology, and i believe that if kids are constantly killing people in video games without any concequences they may think the same for real life, that there are no concequences for killing people for real. If we see something constantly (i.e. death in video games) we become de-sensitised to it and it stops shocking us. Also, as graphics get better and better each year the line between fiction and reality is becoming more obscured.

there's a very famous European tactic called the "Bull Horn" manuever, basically what happens is if you are in a situation where your infantry is drawn out in a battle line and is engaging a superior force of enemy infantry who are doing the same. through all avalible units at thier center thus, hopefully creating a gap. large enough for cavalry to ride through and out the other side. now you must then split your horses and charge them at the enemy left and right flants,enemy line will collapse.

Especially if ur outnumbered against Greeks or Macedonians or any faction with phalanxes. plus its cavalry not calvary....though for everyone out there, use the pause button during human vs. AI fights it evens it up and there is nothing wrong with using something thats available to you

I'm sorry, but I don't consider this a tactic at all. Be a man and try to win without cornering yourself. Or at least try it on a map with a natural backstop, like a cliff. Then, and only then can you even be considered an "amateur" tactician.

the best tactic is a line...it works against everything...when they are coming with phalanx you can easenly flank them or when they are coming from a line they are too weak

no ,i`m not talking about the map`s edge ,i`m talking about the fact that this only works against the computer or even only vs easy and medium computer ...against hard and very hard u need another tactic. i`d say the best tactic is a nice sturdy first line and some dmg soldiers to flank or destroy his middle :)to rout as many of his man as fast as u can without routing yours :p

Your infantry is covered, if they have protected flanks. Your cavalry you have to micro-manage to keep them alive, but they will take high casualties. But that will keep your infantry alive and able to take lots of enemies.
